It took me a while to process all and being able to share these images shot walking around with my old camera, stepping over fallen trees and big puddles, the days after the last strong typhoon 海葵 " Haikui" (meaning Sea Anemones in Chinese) hit The South East Coast of Taiwan in Sept 2023.Its "Eye" open on Dulan... My home village by the ocean.

Scary.Lots of damages.Loss .A real Natural Disaster.Everyone was safe. Luckily.

I'm learning a lot from the locals who live here and are used to experience these events.

No complaints,no surrender,but solidarity, a strong sense of community and a positive attitude. Everybody rolled up their sleeves and started working to get back to normal since the first day following the storm.Not looking back but forward.

This is the land of the Amis, a community-based indigenous ethnic group.

They have magnificent rituals, with the annual harvest being the most representative.

Through the Centuries they have fought against the colonization of their land and culture and only recently they managed to claim their family tribal name back.

They are so rooted in their island’s nature, and landscape, accepting its dramatic changes and embracing natural disasters like typhoons and quakes like something to be respected rather than feared as the Amis people interpret a typhoon as a bearer of new life.
